Abstract

Premixes are complex mixtures of vitamins, microminerals, trace elements and other food additives that are incorporated at levels between 0.2 and 0.5% in the compound ration. Generally, in the formulation calculations of feed for species of zootechnical interest, premixes are part of the reserve space intended for the adequacy of the feed according to the dietary requirements of the animals. Premixes are legally defined as mixtures of feed additives or mixture of one or more of these additives with raw materials used as vehicles that are not intended for direct feeding of animals (BRAZIL, 2004). Premixes are essential to achieve maximum productivity for livestock. There are different methods employed by companies for the formulation and manufacture of premixes, however, the content and method explained will be the basic for the manual and technical preparation of premixes.
